  • Dr Lai Choon Hin was awarded the prestigious Public Service Commission Merit Scholarship to study Medicine at the National University of Singapore and graduated at the top of his class. Subsequently, he was awarded the Howard Eddey Medal by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for achieving the highest grades at the FRACS examination and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
  • Dr Lai was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan fellowship to train in adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery, tumour surgery, biomechanics and bone physiology at the Mayo Clinic in the United States. He was subsequently appointed as an Adult Reconstruction Fellow at the Department of Orthopaedics of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in the United States to specialise in hip, knee, shoulder and elbow primary and revision replacement surgery while holding a concurrent appointment as an Instructor at the Mayo Medical School during his fellowship.
  • Upon his return to Singapore, Dr Lai was promoted to consultant and then senior consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He served as Director of the Adult Reconstruction Service in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital until 2010. He has trained multiple cohorts of younger arthroplasty surgeons in Singapore and ASEAN.
  • Dr Lai is currently the Director of the AP Centre for Joint Reconstruction at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist Centre.
  • He was elected President, Singapore Orthopaedic Association 2007 -2008 and founded the ASEAN Arthroplasty Association (AAA) in 2007 among the arthoplasty surgeons of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam and served as the Founding President till 2008. Currently he is on the board of the AAA.
  • Dr Lai has published in medical journals such as Current Orthopedics and Clinical Research, Journal of Trauma, The Knee as well as local medical journals. Additionally, he has given multiple presentations and lectures at American Academy of Orthopedic Association Annual Meetings, Mayo Clinic Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Courses, Mayo Clinic Alumni Meetings, ISAKOS, APAS and APOS and other conferences in China, India and ASEAN nations
  • His current interests include all forms of reconstruction surgery for the hip, knee, elbow and the surgery and treatment of sports injuries especially in the middle-aged and older sportsmen.
