  • Dr Julianah Abu Wong is an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist in Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. She has special interests in women's reproductive health and subspecialises in clinical embryology and assisted reproduction (ART).
  • Dr Julianah completed her medical studies at the National University of Singapore in July 1990 and went on to pursue postgraduate specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia, Singapore and London.
  • Dr Julianah was a research associate at the Cryobiology Research Institute at the Methodist Hospital of Indiana, USA, where her subspecialty training in clinical embryology and assisted reproduction was nurtured. She was also conferred another scholarship from the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) to pursue her 5th degree, the Master of Clinical Embryology from the National University of Singapore.
  • She is one of the few gynaecologists in Singapore who is accredited by the Ministry of Health of Singapore to perform assisted reproductive procedures such as IVF for infertile couples. She was a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Centre of Assisted Reproduction (CARE) in the Singapore General Hospital before she left for private practice in 2004.
  • While in SGH, she developed her interest in male fertility as well and went on to set up a joint Gynaecology-Urology Male Fertility Service which enabled male partners to have an earlier assessment and treatment of their male fertility problem at the same time their female partner is assessed. Julianah was also in charge of the Sperm Bank at SGH. She encouraged autologous sperm banking by promoting this service to her oncologist colleagues to refer their male patients to store their sperm prior to chemotherapy.
  • Dr Julianah has additional interest in the management of the menopause and their long-term sequelae such as urinary stress incontinence, vaginal laxity and uterine prolapse.
  • In 2007, Dr Julianah was invited to be the leading IVF consultant at the premier Jerudong Medical Centre in Brunei where she had the privilege of working with the Brunei Hospital consultants and doctors to revive the IVF services.
  • She has been the recipient of many scholastic awards through the years. She has scholarships from the Ministry of Education and the Public Service Commission and awards such as the Prime Minister Book Prize and Mendaki Student Award.
